Therapy for Anxiety and Depression
The last several years have brought immense disruption into our lives. We might even say prolonged uncertainty.
Anxiety
As society and culture continue to evolve as a result of the uncertainties, you may notice lingering anxiety, hopelessness, burnout, anger, and depression.
How do we know that we are feeling these things? Our body tells us. What is your body telling you? What does anxiety feel like to you? Does it feel like a huge electrical charge that charges every component of your body? Does it feel like a low-grade constant current running through your body? Is it more like an inability to settle, sit still, think straight or maybe to focus long enough to think at all?
What does burnout feel like in your body? Lack of motivation? Emotional fatigue? Maybe it feels like wanting to stay in bed. Maybe it feels like not wanting to do anything. Maybe it even feels like depression?
Depression
Depressive symptoms surface differently for each individual.
What does depression feel like in your body? Unable or unwilling to rise in the morning to start your day? Mid-way through the day, you’d prefer to lay on the couch and check out by endless scrolling on social media or scrolling through the streaming channels? A feeling of disinterest in life in general?
Are you angry for no apparent reason? You lash out at others with a quick unconscious response? In my practice, I commonly see individuals who isolate and avoid sharing vulnerabilities because they feel misunderstood or worse yet, unheard.
All of these feelings are completely understandable based on what our society, well, even our world has undergone over the past several years.
Start Healing
If you’re struggling with feelings of anxiety, depression, or both, you are not alone. We’ve been through a pandemic. We’ve seen huge economic changes, wars, increased crime. It is difficult to wrap our heads around how we should react, could react, are capable of reacting in a healthy, loving, nurturing way. What are you receiving in return?
It is about what the prolonged uncertainty is doing to us emotionally and to our souls. There is a Covid reckoning. For several years, we marched - we survived. Now, we are coming out the other side. We are learning to live alongside an ongoing pandemic and general unrest.
How do we do that?
